Mount Hood Pendant with Opal
Mount Hood miniscape pendant with a white Opal. This pendant is Mt Hood from the Hood River side of the mountain. Each one is individually sand casted from the original model that took me hours to hand fabricate. Models are made by layering sheet metal and wire, then hammered and engraved. Pendant has been darkened with patina to make the details POP and sealed with a special wax.
This Opal is from Welo, Ethiopia. Opals are a hydroplane, meaning they absorb and release water, almost like a sponge. This actually is a good thing, keeping the opal from drying out or cracking. With that being said, I highly encouraged you take off before showering or swimming in water for extended periods of time. Absorption of water or chemicals can cause clouding or color changes but may return once it dries out. Keep stored in a cool dry place like a soft jewelry box.
